WA0006 - Storm over Glen Etive, Glencoe, Highland, Scotland
February 2014 - With Buachaille Etive Mor on the right hand-side, one of the most photographed mountains in Scotland, I wanted something different. Not just the angle which misses most of the mountain but also a low view of the glen, giving a bigger importance to the storm that was brewing above.
I remember that day clearly, rain, then snow, then rain again. The clouds were heavy and menacing while freezing gales were blowing strong, making it hard to take hand-held photographs without camera shake.
A light shaft appeared in Glen Etive, starting on the far right and moving diagonally towards me and the left. It was weak but promising.
The warm Winter colours of the moors were setting the landscape alight, contrasting with the snow capped mountains and framed by the dark clouds cover. Watching the light evolve, weaken, nearly disappear, move, strengthen and break into a shaft I was ready for the shot, frozen, but ready. Determination is a wonderful thing!
